Photography, much like the rodeo, is a dance between chaos and control. It’s not just about capturing a perfect moment—it’s about telling a story, feeling the dust, hearing the crowd, and seeing the heart behind the action. 💥

When I first started photographing rodeos nearly a year and a half ago, I thought I had a pretty clear idea of what cowboys were looking for in a photo. Action shots. The moment the bronc peaks in the air. A bull mid-turn. The grit, the glory, the proof of the ride. Kaden makes sure I stay informed about what sells, what they’re asking for, what they want hanging on their walls or to share to social media.

But there’s another side to this work that doesn’t always get talked about: the part that feeds the artist in me. This year, I’ve been working on more than just capturing what sells. I’ve been focused on nurturing my own growth—learning how to see rodeo through a different lens (literally and figuratively). I’ve challenged myself to look beyond the obvious shots, to pay attention to the quiet moments, the in-between frames, the stories that don’t always get requested but still deserve to be told. ✨

Photography is not a profession where you ever stop learning. It’s constantly evolving—new gear, new styles, new inspirations. And if you’re not careful, you can get stuck shooting the same thing over and over because it’s safe or familiar. But growth doesn’t happen in the comfort zone. This latest series of photos is deeply personal for me. ❤️ I believe they show how far I’ve come—not just in technique, but in vision. I’ve worked hard to expand my storytelling, to push past just the “money shots,” and create images that capture emotion, movement, and soul. It’s still a balancing act, of course. I will always keep in mind what my clients want—what cowboys are proud to show off. But I also know the value of shooting for myself, of making space to grow as an artist. Because in the end, photography isn’t just about the pictures. It’s about how those pictures make you feel. 📸
